An established artist & mezzo-soprano Esther Gresswell is currently a freelance artist based in Berlin. In 2024 she was a proud recipient of an Emerging Artist Grant from the Potter Cultural Trust for 2025 and was an Artist in Residence at the 74th Bayreuth Young Artist Festival. In 2023/24 Esther worked in the Landestheater Linz and with Melbourne Opera in their critically acclaimed fully staged production of Wagner's Ring Cycle, covering the roles Wellgunde in Das Rheingold and Götterdämerung and Rossweisse in Die Walküre.

A graduate with honours from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music (MCM), Esther has performed numerous roles including La Ciesca in Gianni Schicchi with Theater Alte Münze, Mädchen in The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, Rossweisse in Die Walküre, Second Orphan in Der Rosenkavalier with Melbourne Opera, Marianne in Le Chatte Métamorphosée en Femme, BK Opera, Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro opera scenes, Lyric Opera Melbourne and Tessa in The Gondoliers, Savoy Opera Company. Esther also covered Dorabella in IOpera's Greenroom nominated Così fan Tutte and made her international debut covering Cherubino and Marcellina in Le Nozze di Fiagro with the Australian International Opera Company in their tour of China and also covered Charlotte in Werther with BK Opera.

A testimate to her capabilities, Esther is honoured to have been the recipient of multiple scholarships and scholarship funded programs. Esther was the recipient of the Jamie and Prue Parish Scholarship with Opera Scholars Australia 2018-2020. In 2021 -2022 she was an inaugural member of Melbourne Opera's Richard Divall Developing Artist Program and in 2022-2023 was a member of the Richard Divall Emerging Artists program and is now an Associate Artist with Melbourne Opera. In 2022, Esther was the recipient of the Zenaida Piontkovsky Memorial Scholarship which funded her Summer studies in Germany and in 2023 she was also offered the Elisavet Chatzivasileiou Memorial Scholarship.

Esther has also taken part in multiple productions with Melbourne Opera in their chorus for Wagner's Tannhäuser, Anna Bolena, Lohengrin , Der Fliegender Holländer and Norma.

In 2021, Esther debuted with the Australian national company Opera Australia as an ensemble member in the productions Aïda and Ernani.

Esther has been been engaged prolifically as a concert, Oratorio and recital soloist. In 2022 and 2023 Esther was a featured performer as part of a Music Matinée recital series and was also a featured soloist as part of the Mozart by Moonlight concert series produced by the Australian Shakespeare Company and Melbourne Opera. In 2022, she was the fearured alto soloist with Heidelberg Choral Society performing excerpts from Vaughan Williams Serenade to Music and Bach's Christmas Oratorio. In 2021 Esther was the featured Oratorio alto soloist for Vivaldi's Gloria performed with Victoria Chorale and Orchestra. She has also performed multiple times as a featured soloist and artist for Opera in the Alps and Opera in the Market alongside acclaimed international artists.
